I remember listening to a K-Pop Podcast (I think it was the K-Popcast) that stressed the importance of knowing the roots of K-Pop before listening to and stanning the new groups. I was heavily into BLACKPINK in mid-2019, most notably the production by Teddy Park, and low and behold I found the earlier version of BLACKPINK (or BLACKPINK could also be considered 2NE1 2.0 or 2NE2 lol) for my listening pleasure. Going back to my proclivities for aegyo cute concept girl groups, 2NE1 and their members' personalities never interested me. But their electro dance-pop influences definitely piqued my interest further into the K-Pop genre and I'll always be thankful for them and BLACKPINK for opening that rabbit hole, so to speak.
As far as "I Don't Care" and the 2009 2NE1 1st mini-album. It's my favorite era of 2NE1 and has a incomparable vintage sound. Teddy Park and Kush definitely have a 90s and early 2000s influence in their sound and it's apparent with the Hip-Hop, R&B, and electro dance-pop influence. All in all, "I Don't Care" and the 2009 EP is a lot of fun and wall to wall dance club bangers, with a collab with BIGBANG to boot in "Lollipop".
So happy 11th anniversary to "I Don't Care" with this the iconic single and MV. Please enjoy the subbed video from fansoop and follow us on IG and TikTok and subscribe to the blog and YouTube channel.
From wiki:
"I Don't Care" is song by South Korean girl group 2NE1 from their eponymous debut extended play, 2NE1 (2009). Written and produced by Teddy Park and Kush, the song was released as the EP's second lead single on July 1, 2009 by YG Entertainment. The track has been characterized as a mid-tempo dance-pop track that incorporates elements of R&B and reggae, and was noted for marking a stylistic shift in the group's mainly previous hip-hop image. Lyrically, the song revolves around the theme of independence after a break up.
A commercial success following its release, "I Don’t Care" became one of the country’s most popular songs of 2009. The accompanying music video for the single was directed by Cha Eun-taek and was filmed over the course of two days in late June. It features the members visiting a fortune teller who then freezes time in order to play sabotage on their cheating boyfriends.
