     Weeekly, formerly known as Play M Girls and FAVEGIRLS (due to the name of their agencies), is a South Korean girl group under Play M Entertainment. The group consists of seven members: Zoa, Soojin, Jiyoon, Soeun, Monday, Jaehee, and Jihan. Weeekly debuted on June 30, 2020 with their first mini album We are, and its title track, Tag Me (@Me).

For me, personally, I'm a huge fan of cute concept (aegyo) girl groups. I prefer them over girl crush groups especially since TWICE made me "Cheer Up" during depressing and anxious times of the pandemic. Unfortunately, I got into TWICE a bit too late - I started listening to them around "Feel Special" era and didn't stan them until the YouTube Seize The Light doc series and then "More & More" era. And by then they had completely shed their cute concept for a more mature, elegant, and classy sexy vibe. Which is fine, but I needed a new cute concept gg and Weeekly was it. "Tag Me" hooked me instantly, with it's "color pop" blend of Rock n' Roll, R&B, and Hip-Hop, and brought me back to the vintage sounds of debut era TWICE. NiziU was another debut group, from JYP, that was supposed to be that TWICE successor group but I'll get into that in my "Make you happy" post.

Anyway, after "Tag Me" and We Are, their follow-up "Zig-Zag" from We Can Album was a step down but still a solid track. It wasn't until March of 2021 when they broke out in a big way with "After School", which went viral after it received lots of dance covers and mentions on TikTok. The song achieved even further success entering the Billboard World Digital Song Chart, topping Spotify's Viral 50 global chart, and getting over 38 million MV views on YouTube. The song is sort of an anthem for Gen Z as is most of their lyrical content in their title tracks. But I can't help be invigorated by their cute and charming visuals (not as cute as TWICE of course hehe) and musical content. They are definitely the next TWICE and I'll keep an eye out for them. >,<
